Daughter

A poem about what becomes of us when a relationship that has always defined us begins to change.

Bare winter trees standing in still floodwater, their trunks doubled in the reflection, two ducks trailing wakes across the surface

Just as darkness is void of light

my innocence my need of you

my senses my heart and mind

are tuned to you.

Just as darkness is void of light

how can two be one?

Daughter, you say.

I say, no longer.
